The End of An Era

All good things must come to an end. And that’s exactly what appears to have happened to The Jason Ellis Show. Just before the holidays, Evil Corp. Sirius XM (SXM) has axed the show – apparently due to a declining budget.

Fans will get the inside joke here.

It’s not really all that hard to believe that SXM is tightening their budget belt. They’ve been trying like hell to stay relevant in a space dominated by Spotify and YouTube by adding their own podcasts, videos, extra channels, etc. I could go on a diatribe about SXM, their clunky app and player, those aging satellites, their lack of vision, etc. but it would all be for naught now.

Many of the listeners became so much more than just fans of a radio show, we became part of the show, part of a dysfunctional family – we became imaginary best friends with the various cast of characters. It was an amazing ride that we all have to be glad we were a part of.

The bandage has just been ripped off so it’s sore now. Maybe the team or a portion of it will continue on a different path, or maybe each will go on their own way. But in the end, I’m sure everyone will be fine. Like probably most of you, I wish them nothing but the best in their future endeavors and will likely watch from afar as they proceed on the next chapter of their lives.
