The End of An Era

All good things must come to an end. And that’s exactly what appears to have happened to The Jason Ellis Show. Just before the holidays, Evil Corp. Sirius XM (SXM) has axed the show – apparently due to a declining budget.

Fans will get the inside joke here.

It’s not really all that hard to believe that SXM is tightening their budget belt. They’ve been trying like hell to stay relevant in a space dominated by Spotify and YouTube by adding their own podcasts, videos, extra channels, etc. I could go on a diatribe about SXM, their clunky app and player, those aging satellites, their lack of vision, etc. but it would all be for naught now.

Many of the listeners became so much more than just fans of a radio show, we became part of the show, part of a dysfunctional family – we became imaginary best friends with the various cast of characters. It was an amazing ride that we all have to be glad we were a part of.

The bandage has just been ripped off so it’s sore now. Maybe the team or a portion of it will continue on a different path, or maybe each will go on their own way. But in the end, I’m sure everyone will be fine. Like probably most of you, I wish them nothing but the best in their future endeavors and will likely watch from afar as they proceed on the next chapter of their lives.

Creepy Weekend Contest

Schumacher in his glory.

This nostalgic and entertaining clip from 2011 is a classic example of just how good the show was with little to no professional support, no professional producer, and literally flying by the seat the of their pants. The contest was for everyone to do something “creepy” over the weekend and anonymously write down what they did. Everyone was then tasked with guessing who did what as each instance was read. It wasn’t only hilarious, but in hind sight, it gave us an introduction into Will’s world. Little did anyone realize the door that was left cracked open would eventually allow the escape for more stories and a one-man band fueled with a plethora of songs – HATEBEAN! Will wasn’t the only one with a disturbingly hilarious entry in the contest though, intern Schumacher also revealed what could only be described as a perverted, depraved, sexual fetish that might scare the average person – but not the average Jason Ellis Show listener. And of course Rawdog’s entry involved nipple play – no spoiler alert required. Enjoy.

Kevin James Calls In To Promote “Mall Cop” (Rare Audio)

This clip from 2009 is rarely played as there’s not a lot of non-stop “funny” or show defining content to it, but it is still very interesting and cool to hear. Kevin James calls in to promote Mall Cop and trade a few friendly verbal jabs with Ellis. And one has to assume this interview only happened because Ellis had a small part in the movie, as nobody at Sirius XM was actually tasked with booking high profile guests for the show back then. It’s also a nice throw back to the early days of The Jason Ellis Show, which is always fun to hear. Enjoy.

UFC 193: Dana & Ellis Approach The Possibility of A Rousey Loss

The date is November 10, 2015. Dana White calls into the show to discuss the upcoming UFC 193 bouts featuring Ronda Rousey vs Holly Holm. Speaking on that subject, Ellis was on his best behavior and politely approached the possibility of a Holm win while Dana, also politically correct, tried to professionally answer the questions posed. Basically, the short story is both of them agreed that Holm had not only a legitimate chance against Rousey, but could potentially unseat the current (at that time) champion. Hindsight proved it to be true as Holm knocked out Rousey.

In layman terms, Ellis basically said he believes we’ll see a less “safe” Holm and he wants to see her live up to her hype, because he feels she’s been playing it safe – almost sandbagging. Dana agrees and goes even further to tell you that not only does Holm have more experience, but he thinks Holm presents a really good “test” for Rousey. So there you have it, straight from the horses’ mouths, previous to the fight.
